Well that was… Unexpected. Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutekunst leaves Round 1 of the NFL Draft without taking an offensive weapon again as he opts for two high pedigree defenders from the University of Georgia in Off-Ball Linebacker Quay Walker and Interior Defensive Lineman Devonte Wyatt.

With so much emphasis and focus being placed  on the wide receiver position by the main stream sports media and fantasy owners alike, it seemed as though this was the only possible position Green Bay would take in round 1. A lot of people left Thursday night scratching their heads wondering “Who is going to catch passes from The 4-Time MVP QB?”. No need to worry, this is why I’m here; to provide a day 2 mock that will satisfy your fantasy football team and quiet so much unnecessary noise.

For this mock draft I will be using The Draft Network’s mock draft simulator but avoiding any trades, as I’d like to see how the board falls if Green Bay were to just stay put.

Round 2

Pick 53 Overall – George Pickens / WR / Georgia

As I watched Pickens fall more and more on the simulator, my grin grew bigger and bigger. Pickens is the WR1 of this class and a top 10 talent on my board. While I struggle to believe Pickens will be available at 53 overall, I had to pull the trigger here. Pickens is a fantastic athlete who produced in the SEC at a young age. He’s a player with a lot of attitude and “DAWG” in him and I think the offense could use a lot of that. With the first selection on day 2 for the Green Bay Packers, give me the cocky, tone setting wide receiver out of Georgia.

Also Considered: None

Pick 59 Overall – Alec Pierce / WR /  Cincinnati

Arguably the most “Packers Type” receiver in this draft, I head to Cincinnati to snag Alec Pierce at pick 59. There’s no doubt Pierce would instantly become a fan favorite in Titletown, as I see so many shades of Jordy Nelson in his game. Pierce is another physical tone setter who can dominate on the boundary, in the red zone and win vertically.

Also Considered: TE Trey McBride

Round 3

Pick 92 Overall – Jelani Woods / TE / Virginia

*Heavy Breathing*

Another Weapon! Green Bay opts to get another pass catcher here in Round 3 with a developmental, freak of nature athlete at the tight end position. Woods is a massive human being who just happens to be the most athletic tight end to ever test at the combine. He could use some work with his hands but this is an incredible ball of clay to be molded once he lands in Green Bay. Learning behind Marcedes Lewis is so valuable for this young man. With tight ends late day 2 / early day 3, always bet on elite traits.

Also Considered: WR Romeo Doubs, S Nick Cross

And there we have it! 3 picks, 3 playmakers for Green Bay’s offense. Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur have to be salivating right now, as I know they are definitely reading this mock draft.  Look, none of us are GM’s in the NFL. None of us know what is going to happen or what is the “right” thing to do on draft night. We’re watching a bunch of young men’s dreams come true in front of our eyes. Take a chill pill and enjoy the ride. Be a fan. Go Pack Go.
