Green Bay Packers are the first time in the rivalry between the Chicago Bears to reach 100 wins. It wasn’t easy for the Packers to get to triple digits, but in the past three decades, it has been too easy against the Bears.
The Packers are coming off a dominating 41-25 victory over the Bears. The offense was fantastic as they put up 41 points and 393 yards against one of the NFL’s top defenses, then the Packers defense created three turnovers and gave up 10 points heading into the fourth quarter. It was a great game for the Packers as this was their most complete game of the season, but for quite some time against the Bears.
The Packers-Bears rivalry is arguably the greatest rivalry in the NFL and in all of sports, but since 1992, it hasn’t been much of a rivalry. The Packers are 43-15 and have outscored the Bears by 483 points. The average score for each game has been the Packers scoring 25 points and the Bears scoring 16.7 points.
If you look at the recent games, it favors the Packers. Since Aaron Rodgers became a full-time starter in 2008, the Packers are 21-5 against the Bears. In the past decade, the Packers are 15-4. In the Packers’ last 10 games, they are 8-2 against the Bears. Even before Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre held a 23-13 record against the Bears.
There have been some great moments against the Bears within the last 58 matchups. On Sept. 9, 2018, the Packers complete a 21-point comeback in Khalil Mack’s and Matt Nagy’s first game as a Chicago Bear. On Jan. 23, 2011, the Packers defeated the Bears in the NFC Championship Game that was sealed by B.J. Raji’s pick-six on Caleb Hennie. On Nov. 12, 1995, Favre totaled 336 yards and five touchdowns after being labeled as “extremely doubtful.” Then, on Nov. 4, 2014, Rodgers threw for six touchdown passes in the first half and the Packers ended up winning 55-14.
However, even though the Packers have been running this rivalry, it used to be all about the Bears. In the ’80s and early ’90s, before 1992 the Bears were 15-7. Then from 1939 to 1960, the Bears had a whopping 32-10-2 record against the Packers. There have also been some small runs for each, but a lot of times during some years, both teams have been going back and forth.
In the 99-year old rivalry, the record will show this has been a solid rivalry as in the 201 matchups, the Packers are winning 100-95-6. Now, if you do the math, before 1992, the Bears held onto an 80-57-6 lead, but over the years, that lead quickly erased. This has been an all-time great rivalry between the Packers and the Bears, but in recent memory, this has been nothing close to a rivalry as the Packers have been dominating the Bears.
