Green Bay Packers Head Coach says the team is getting further opinions on star CB Jaire Alexander’s shoulder injury

Head Coach Matt LaFleur provided his latest update on CB Jaire Alexander’s status.

The Packers medical staff is still gathering further opinions on Alexander’s shoulder and what his short and long-term prognosis is.

LaFleur did say he expected to have a firm update by Wednesday’s pre-practice presser.

On one hand, it’s just a little spooky that the staff is still going around the room with regards to an AC joint injury. But said opinions could also be for whether Jaire can play as soon as this week or if a week or two off would be in the best interest moving forward.

In the interim, it’d be helpful to the Packers if CB Kevin King can return from his concussion suffered two weeks ago to help reinforce what is now a perilously thin CB room. Per LaFleur, the team is hoping to get him back soon, but King would not have practiced today if the team had one.

Game On Wisconsin will have you up to speed when Jaire’s status comes into better focus.

—————–UPDATE (Tuesday, 10/5/21 3:25pm CST)—————–

Green Bay Packers beat reporter Tom Silverstein had an update on Jaire’s potential status for this week and the rest of the season

It sounds like Jaire is in the Grade I or “low” Grade II range of AC Joint Sprain based on Tom’s tweet above and reported recovery timelines for this sort of injury.

As noted in many previous posts, the Packers medical staff is on the cautious end of the spectrum so fans shouldn’t suspect the team is being reckless with Jaire’s long-term heath.

That said, there is always an inherent risk with playing with an injury and one more ill-timed hit to that shoulder could further aggravate the injury and put Jaire out the rest of the season.

This could explain Coach LaFleur’s hesitance during yesterday’s presser in providing an update on Jaire’s status and explain the extra opinions the team was seeking out.

One further angle: NFL teams don’t want to “give games away”, but if there was a preference to give Jaire’s shoulder an extra week off, this week’s game against Cincinnati is preferable for Jaire to sit as it’s an AFC opponent game while the following 3 games (@CHI, WAS, @ARI) are against NFC opponents.

Even though the injuries are listed differently, Tramon did miss the first game following what was announced as a “bruised shoulder” in the 2011 opener before playing the remainder of the season with a shoulder harness.

—————–UPDATE (Wednesday, 10/6/21 3:30pm CST)—————–

Head Coach Matt LaFleur provided an update on Jaire’s status for this week’s upcoming game at Cincinnati.

LaFleur stated Jaire is likely out this week and that the team is still gathering more information on his shoulder.

LaFleur remained very guarded on this topic, bristling back at this being the first questions of the presser being on Jaire.

—————–UPDATE (Friday, 10/8/21 3:40pm CST)—————–

Coach LaFleur gave a much more optimistic and promising update on Jaire’s situation today.

This matches the sentiment from the Green 19 Podcast where Tom Silverstein noted the team was waiting this week out to see how Jaire’s shoulder responded to treatment (~4:25 mark).

Hopefully, this means Jaire is back in the next couple of weeks but it will all depend on how the shoulder continues to react to treatment and rest. One thing we can trust is the Packers’ training staff will put Jaire’s long-term health at the forefront and won’t rush him back recklessly.

Stay tuned to Game on Wisconsin as more updates are released by the team.
