Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur held his Friday Presser for Week 18 and set off a few fireworks for fans regarding the status of several players ahead of Sunday’s game

Head Coach Matt LaFleur addressed the media for the final time in the 2021 regular season, setting the table for who would suit up for the Green Bay Packers against the Detroit Lions on Sunday’s season finale.

Unfortunately, LaFleur led off with the negative, stating CB Jaire Alexander will almost certainly be out for Sunday’s game as the team isn’t comfortable putting Alexander in a game on just one practice. This slightly contradicts LaFleur’s comments from earlier this week, but makes sense that the team needs to make sure Alexander has his conditioning set and how other players have struggled in their first games back after testing positive.

LaFleur then followed up that LT David Bakhtiari, coming off a strong week of practice, will be given up to game time to play. Given the positive returns and longer reintegration for OL, I’d expect Bakhtiari to suit up and start on Sunday.

LaFleur then mentioned the Green Bay Packers’ plans for personnel on Sunday and how long the team would play its starters and key players. LaFleur noted that while he doesn’t think Rodgers needs the live game reps, he does think there’s something to be said for maintaining the offensive momentum the team has had the past 6 weeks. In particular, I think it would behoove the Green Bay Packers to work on starting faster, something the team has not done well all year.

LaFleur gave the most promising news on C Josh Myers, who LaFleur stated will play on Sunday. However, Myers is not guaranteed his starting spot back. Regardless, Myers’ return is HUGE for the Green Bay Packers as his presence on the roster greatly improves the depth options on the OL. The roster is currently at 52 players with Jaire returning from the Reserve/COVID list, so no move needs to be made if Myers is the only activation between now and tomorrow’s weekly deadline.

And on the back end, LaFleur again had no real update on the status of LB Za’Darius Smith. At this point, Smith’s return would be highly unlikely, though it would be extremely helpful to a roster that is devoid of depth at Edge.

WR David Moore will not be activated in time for Sunday’s game, so WR Amari Rodgers will assume the PR and KR duties for the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

And finally, it does not look like Randall Cobb will be activated ahead of Sunday’s game. It was already a pleasant surprise that Cobb was designated to return from IR last week. But he is still just five weeks removed from core muscle surgery.
