The Green Bay Packers made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday (1/12)

The Green Bay Packers have placed C/G Lucas Patrick on the Reserve/COVID list and re-signed OL Ben Braden to the Practice Squad.

Patrick has played in all 13 of the team’s games with 17 starts, 1 at LG to open the season, 11 at C in place of rookie Josh Myers, and 1 at RG after Myers returned from IR in Week 18. Patrick looked to have the inside track to starting at RG in the team’s Divisional Round Game next weekend.

Hopefully, Patrick won’t be on the COVID list for too long and he can return to practice shortly. This move drops the Active Roster to 52 players for the time being.

Braden, after being released on Monday, was signed back to the Practice Squad after clearing waivers. It was a predictable move as the team needs to have capable bodies available in case a situation like Patrick’s arises in the coming weeks.

For reference, of the key Packers OL players, Braden, T Dennis Kelly, T Billy Turner, and now Patrick have tested positive and spent time on the COVID list this season. T David Bakhtiari, Myers, G Royce Newman, T Yosh Nijman, and G Jon Runyan Jr have not tested positive for COVID yet and would need to test out of protocol.

Hopefully, this is the tail end of the Green Bay Packers’ bout with COVID for this season, but the team will need to stay on top of its protocols to prevent a potentially crippling outbreak. Having the Bye is a massive boon but the team must stay vigilant ahead of its playoff run.
