Green Bay Packers got some big news for tomorrow’s matchup against the San Fransico 49ers, and it’s what everyone has been expecting. This comes at a much-needed time as the Packers are three games away from winning the Lombardi Trophy.
According to the Green Bay Packers, the team will activate linebackers Za’Darius Smith and Whitney Mercilus off injured reserve. In a corresponding move, the Packers have released DL Jack Heflin and CB Isaac Yiadom.
And there it is. These moves were expected; however, the Packers kept us on the edge of our sits all day to make the announcement.
Smith is coming off a back injury that he suffered in Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints. There was no timetable for him to come back after his surgery but here we are as he’s ready to go against the San Francisco 49ers.
The same is to be said about Mercilus. He tore his biceps muscle in the Packers’ Week 10 win over the Seattle Seahawks. The assumption was that the season was over for him, but here will be ready to go against the 49ers.
Green Bay has already gotten wide receiver Randall Cobb back from the injury report and could probably see Jaire Alexander, Josh Myers, and Billy Turner play tomorrow. This is arguably the healthiest the Packers have been all season and it’s coming at the right time.
