Mennenga served two years under Matt LaFleur, ranking no better than 26th. As the Packers rolled to a 13-3 regular season, they had many struggles with their special teams.
At one point, the Packers had allowed 50% of the punt returns for touchdowns in the entire league (2). Missed PAT’s, blocked punts and countless long returns, giving opposing offenses a short field was reason enough to send Mennenga packing.
Typically, the warts that show up during the regular season are what lead to their demise in the postseason and somehow, the Packers avoided special teams gaffes during the NFC championship game. They allowed one long return and JK Scott shanked a punt, but otherwise, it was a pretty quiet day when it could have been worse.
