Welcome back to another episode of #ThirstyThursday! This week, the Packers take on the Bears at Soldier Field for the final week of the regular season, so we’re giving nods to the Windy City with a cocktail that shares its name.
So, last time the Bears and Packers played I was pretty harsh, so this week we’re going to make a delicious cocktail to dedicate to this lovely city.
In case you did not know, I am a Chicagoan. I was born and raised in the suburbs and have been in the city for over 10 years now. I absolutely love this city. It’s historic, diverse, and has so many neighborhoods and restaurants to explore for every single person. A perfect way to honor my home city is a classic cocktail that dates all the way back to the 19th century simply called The Chicago. It’s also perfect for New Year’s Eve because it is traditionally topped off with champagne!
This week there’s no actual connection to the Bears. This cocktail is everything the 2020 Bears want to be. It is classic, sweet, and strong all at the same time…much like this year’s Packers team! The 2020 Bears are more like a Bud Light; bland, forgettable, uninspiring, and flat. (Miller Lite is the superior domestic light beer BTW).
But you don’t come here to listen to me, you come here for cocktails! So let’s have at it….The Chicago cocktail!
The Chicago Cocktail
- Mixing glass
- 2 oz. brandy
- 1 dash Cointreau
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- Champagne/sparkling wine/prosecco
- Lemon slice (optional)
- Sugar (optional)
- Rub the lemon slice all over the rim of the glass then dip the rim in sugar (optional).
- Add brandy, cointreau, and bitters into mixing glass with ice.
- Stir then strain into rimmed glasses.
- Top with champagne.
And there you have it….The Chicago!
Cheers, Cheeseheads! Happy New Year’s to you and yours! Da Bears Still Suck!
