Welcome back to Thirsty Thursday! Saturday the Packers are taking on the Los Angeles Rams for the divisional round of the playoffs. As always, this week’s cocktail is inspired by the Packers opponent, so we’re featuring a cocktail that was first invented in La La Land–The Moscow Mule!
This time we’ve got multiple recipes for you that all stem from a popular refreshing cocktail, the Moscow Mule! The Mule was invented in Los Angeles and became well-known in the 1950’s for being served in a copper mug.
Fun fact: there’s no real reason for the copper mug being used for mules specifically. They were just used because they keep drinks very cold. The copper mugs simply became synonymous with the Moscow Mule because people saw photos of celebrities in LA drinking Mules out of them and thus a tradition was born!
Now, the common Moscow Mule recipe is pretty well known, which is why I’ve included the Mule 3 ways that I like to drink it. The first way is the classic way. Check it out!
Moscow Mule
Ingredients:
- 2 ounces of vodka
- Juice of half of a lime
- 4 ounces of ginger beer
- Ice
Directions:
- Fill copper mug with ice.
- Add vodka and lime juice.
- Top with ginger beer. Stir.
- Serve with lime slice.
There you have it–a classic Moscow Mule.
Now, there are so many ways to dress up this cocktail to make it more interesting or to cater to your taste buds. The first is by infusing flavors such as raspberry or cherry. Below is the recipe for a Raspberry Lime Moscow Mule.
Raspberry Lime Moscow Mule
Ingredients:
- 1 ounce of vodka
- Half of a lime, cut into slices
- 6 raspberries
- 0.5 ounces of raspberry liqueur
- 4 ounces of ginger beer
- Ice
Directions:
- Muddle limes and raspberries in copper mug.
- Fill mug with ice.
- Add vodka and ginger beer. Stir.
- Top with raspberry liqueur.
Moscow mules are easy to add flavor to. You could try muddling cherries and using cherry vodka instead of regular vodka. Or top off a regular mule with pineapple, pomegranate, or cranberry juice. You can get really creative!
Another way to change it up is by using various forms of liquor to replace the vodka. One of my favorites is to use whiskey, in what is called Kentucky Mule. Check it out!
Kentucky Mule
Ingredients:
- 2 ounces of whiskey
- Juice of half of a lime
- 4 ounces of ginger beer
- Ice
Directions:
- Fill copper mug with ice.
- Add whiskey and lime juice.
- Top with ginger beer. Stir.
- Serve with lime slice.
You can switch it up and try tequila, gin, or rum! There you have it….Mules 3 ways! Don’t miss the LA Rams coming to Lambeau to take on the Green Bay Packers this Saturday with coverage on Game On Wisconsin!
And Rams? Don’t worry about the copper mugs….The Frozen Tundra will be cold enough!
