Welcome back to Thirsty Thursday, ladies and gentlemen, where I make cocktails inspired by the Packers weekly opponents! A new (pre)season means new cocktails to enjoy so let’s get right to it…
The Green Bay Packers will welcome the Houston Texans to Lambeau Field Saturday night in their first preseason game of the season. So I decided to whip up a Texas-themed cocktail using Balcones, a Texas-made bourbon, ginger beer, lime juice, and honey syrup.
The drink is called a Texas Buck (#BucksInSix) and it resembles a Moscow Mule, with the addition of honey syrup to give it a deeper richer flavor. The ingredients are very summer-friendly which makes this one a perfect addition to your tailgate, your outdoor watch party, or just hanging around a bonfire on a Saturday night.
Don’t worry, honey syrup is very easy to make! Put 1 part honey, 1 part water in a saucepan over medium heat until honey is dissolved. Store in an airtight container and cool until you’re ready for mixing. You can make a lot of it at one time too, because honey never goes bad so you can store it until you need it.
Now that you’ve got your honey syrup ready, let’s learn how to make a Texas Buck!
- 2 oz of bourbon
- 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice (about 2 limes)
- 1 oz honey syrup
- 4 oz ginger beer
- Lime slice
- Add bourbon, lime juice, and honey syrup to a shaker filled with ice.
- Shake until ice cold.
- Add to ice-filled glass.
- Top with ginger beer.
- Garnish with lime slice.
There you have it! A nice Texas bourbon cocktail to sip on while you watch Jordan Love slinging it in his first NFL action in his career.
Go Pack Go! And tune in next week for another Thirsty Thursday cocktail ahead of the Packers-Jets preseason match-up!
